Different Levels Of Data Abstraction In Dbms

There are mainly three levels of data abstraction and we divide it into three levels in order to achieve data independence.

Different levels of data abstraction in dbms. This approach simplifies database design. This is the middle level of 3 level data abstraction architecture. The physical level is the bottom level of the abstraction levels. Data abstraction levels in dbms levels of abstraction.

The major purpose of a database system is to provide users with an abstract view of the data ie. It describes how data is actually stored in database. Lets look at an example to understand abstraction. It answers the different users needs with the simplified interaction with the system.

This level describes how the data is actually stored in the physical memory like magnetic tapes hard disks etc. Data independence means users and data should not directly interact with each other. It describes what data is stored in database. This is the lowest level of data abstraction.

This is the middle level of 3 level data abstraction architecture. We will see the different data abstraction layers in dbms physical level logical level and view level. View level external level the highest level of data abstraction is view level. The access methods like sequential or random access and file organisation methods like b trees hashing used for the same.

This level depends on the dbms software. The user should be at a different level and the data should be present at some other level. You can get the complex data structure details at this level. The logical level.

It describes how data is actually stored in database. It describes what data is stored in database. This level is how the database is seen from dbms. By doing so data independence can be achieved.

This is the lowest level of data abstraction. The system hides certain details of how the data are stored and maintained. We have three levels of abstraction. It tells us how the data is actually stored in memory.

In most of the cases this level is not mentioned and usually it is said that we have 3 levels of data abstraction. You can get the complex data structure details at this level. There are mainly 3 levels of data abstraction. It answers the different users needs with the simplified interaction with the system.

This is the lowest level of data abstraction. We can even combine logical level and this level.
